Find RGB is an application that searches a folder and all sub folders for PhotoShop™ 'TIFF' and 'EPSF' files that are in RGB mode rather than CYMK.
Why such a program? How often in QuarkXpress™ or other DTP applications do you run the plates for an ad only later to find out that someone forgot to convert one or more of the Photoshop™ images from RGB to CYMK mode. As you know, this causes the image to print on the black plate only, when it should have been printed on all four. At best you will have to rerun the plates costing you time and money. At worst the person(s) responsible for checking the plates missed the mistake, it went to print and your client may decide not to pay for the ad costing you LOTS of time and money.
Use Find RGB to search the directories on your HD where you store your art. Launch Find RGB and a dialog box will pop up asking you to select a directory to search. Use the button at the bottom of the dialog to select the directory of choice and Find RGB will start scanning the directory you selected and all its sub directories. If Find RGB finds a 'TIFF' or 'EPSF' file in RGB mode it will stop and beep three times. To continue the search simply press the mouse button. After Find RGB is finished it will quit.
NOTES:
---------------------------
Find RGB will not list the directory it found the file in. Your best bet (if you don't know where the file is located) is to write down the name(s) of the file(s) and use the 'Find...' command in the Finder to locate it for you after Find RGB has quit. Find RGB may stop on files that it thinks are RGB but are actually in CYMK mode. For hints on why see the file "Further Notes" that came with Find RGB.
This is a beta version so the interface is very primitive. If you would like me to update the interface, ad other improvements or have any comments what so ever, please send me some E-Mail and let me know. I do not plan to update this program at all unless I receive some type of response sense I have better things to do than develop applications that no one wants or needs. Remember that the success of Freeware/Shareware depends on you the users. We programmers will come out with all the applications you like but we need input from you.
Because I cannot justify a fee for such a simple little utility, this is Freeware, not Shareware. So feel free to make copies and pass it around. Besides - it would seem somewhat TACKY to ask for a fee sense most of the search algorithm and interface design was written by Joe Zobkiw for his program 'Scanning Module'. I have received Joe's permission to use his code. If you would like to take a look at Joe's code or just need to read a good programming book, the CD ROM with Joe's program and other great code is bundled with:
"Ultimate Mac Programming" by Dave Mark.
ISBN 1-56884-195-7
Published by Programmers Press a Division of IDG Books Worldwide, Inc. Thanks a million Dave for a series of great Mac programming books! I don't know what I'd do without them.
Thank-you Joe for some great code.
Although, if you feel an overwhelming need to send me some money, send me whatever you think is fair. I never turn down money. ;)
As I have mentioned earlier. I would like you to send me a postcard, letter or E-Mail and tell me what you think of Find RGB and/or would want in a future version. Any questions or comments can be sent to me at:
